My son: My dad has two fish on his car and they're both trout!

I bought a Wetfly Element SE awhile back that I really like. It's in the $100 range.

I really enjoy the action on my 5wt Classic Trout.  I prefer slower actions, and it fits the bill.  It's been good to me.

I fish most days with a Redington 8' 3 wt "Red Start" that I bought nearly 30 years ago for about $150. After thousands and thousands of fish, and years and years and thousands of miles of streams shared with me, it hasn't let me down so far. I have never needed to use that lifetime warranty that came with it.

Those lower end rods hold up better than the high dollar ones. Those high end rods tend to break easier because they use thinner and lighter graphite making them more frail. I've broken so many rods.. Got two Scotts in the shop now.  But I never broke my Aetos when I had it, or either of my Redington CTs.

Newsflash! I don't break my cheap old glass. Or my new glass.
I fish some graphite, but if you want the best combo of fun and tough, try glass.

Cheap bastard here. Wanted to try Euro Nymphing and couple years ago purchased a $70 rod from China. Low expectations for sure. However an OK rod and I caught bunches of fish on it. But one day left broken down rod on top of car and when I stopped a section was missing. Again, low expectations on getting a replacement section......and from China. Wrong again, in less than two weeks new section arrived and it cost me $15. Still have the rod as a backup as I did move up to an 11ft. 3 wt Syndicate
