J has been a bachelor for most of the week and the rains have been timely. So I talked him into a new stream we had targeted for our spring hike/camp/fish trip.
Nobody would commit, the weather would not cooperate, and that trip did not happen. Let's do a stupid road trip?! Get on the road early, hit it and be back by 6.
What could go wrong?
Ring, ring.
Wifey is coming back hours earlier. Plan B. A closer stream that should be flush with water. Finish by 2?
We still started early. It's a pretty good leg stretcher.
Rigged up at 7:30 streamside. Cool temps! Nice.
Overcast. Dark! It had just finished up raining. J had reel issues, I couldn't see to tie knots or thread on a fly. Fukkity.
Up the path. Humidity was about 125%. 45 minutes later we hoped into the water.

The camera was having a tough time in the low light focusing on the wet fish. I just gave up and did my best.  b';

Good fungi day. Everything was wet. Tribs were pumping. Newts abounded.

We hustled it up, scrambled, hit the trail at the top and cruised back to the car. Only 15 minutes late.

Good day fishing.  Stream had a lot of water pumping from the previous rains.  Most of my rainbows came off the dry and most brookies off the dropper.

Schweet.

That mossy crossing looks treacherous.

You ever harvest/eat wild mushrooms?

I can't even ID a daffodil bulb so I figure I should stay away from eating wild mushrooms.

The other saying is "every mushroom is edible at least once"
