I hadn't been up to the Smith since springtime but decided to hit the road Saturday around 11 to see how she was doing. Planned on running and gunning but I stuck a good fish on the 5th cast and stayed in the same general area all day.
Glad I went because I had my most succesful day I have ever had on a section of river where I have been skunked plenty before but knew good fish lurked. When conditions are right like they were saturday these browns just crush a certain fly on the swing.

Best brown of the year for me. Iphone pics forgot my camera  b';

Clear skies be damned, I'm still throwing streamers...

the streamer bite was off,  so I took this pic.

I switched to dredging the bottom with a rubber legs, and then got low holed by two spinners,
who, armed with worms and Rapalas proceeded to whack'em, I moved on and hit the last
chance big run and found some fish that were interested in my offering.

Left the river and got ready to move on down the road, reached down into my waders and
removed my wallet as I planned to may a drive through snack run, but when I got there,
I couldn't find my wallet, which I thought I tossed onto the seat. I pulled out of line and
tore the Miata apart looking for it. I began to freak out as I feared I was loosing my mind.
Drove back to the put in scouring the road and parking lot, but it wasn't there. Tore everything
out of the car once again, and then patted down my waders in hopes that I had somehow
dropped it. This was beginning to ruin my day, and I was ready to call it quits ad drive home.
So I took off my waders and there, down in the bottom was my wallet! Crazy, I guess the
gravel guard prevented me from feeling it. Well, that only took a half hour or so. Got my
snack and drove on down the road to the next spot.

Hiked in and ran the rubber legs through some of the runs, got a nice bump, in a spot
where I've never taken a fish before, but that was it. I switched back to the streamer as
the sun was fully off the water now. After a while I double hauled the lead eyed streamer
right into the tip of the rod, THWACK! Oh, shit, I broke the tip off the rod.

Hiked back to the car to rig up the spare and went back in. Started way up at the top
and worked my way back on down. Finally got a nice one swinging in the tail of a big
pool. It was 5:22, 18 minutes past sunset. I hoped for another and fished on for another
20 minutes or so before hiking out in the dark.

Veddy nice, boss.  Still have yet to wank it on the Smith.

Nice, big guy.
Way to squeeze in that broken rod just before the end of the year.

Didn't have time to run 3 hours west today. So I settled on the Smiff. I decided to do some exploring today, and fish some areas I have never fished before. I can count on both hands how many times I've been to the Smith.

Arrived at 9am, 38 degrees
First run I fished yields this guy

First cast into a run and I thought I was hung up. Until the rock took off down stream. My biggest Smith brown to date.

a hair under 19

Caught many more that weren't camera worthy. The sun came out about 2:30 and I decided not to push my luck.

Some fine wine for the ride home

 'c; 'c; 'c; Very nice.

Less than two weeks more of this insanity called deer hunting which I get afflicted with every fall and I'm switching gears. Anyone know a good delayed harvest stream I can hone my skills on?

Fin

Driver, fish number 3 appears to have a clipped adipose fin.  That would make it an upstream transplant; appears to be enjoying it's new home.

driver

I forgot about the fin clipping until afterwards. So I didn't look for it while on the stream.

Fin and Doug convinced me to fish the Smith. I was pleased with it. Threw streamers and was rewarded.

Was rewarded. I had good guides though to show me the ropes.
