Title: Albies 2022
Post by: Woolly Bugger on September 17, 2022, 15:18:29 PM
Just around the corner...

I took the eight weight out to the pond for an hour of casting, with some backhand casting too. I really suck at that. I tend to not have a full stop when trying to cast that way, but I'm working on it.

Even managed to catch a pune bass...

I'll be in Harkers fishing with Capt. Sarah November 7 - 11..

Albies are starting to show up. I may go down for a preliminary run in two weeks. Spanish mackerel bite is on fire right now.

I took the albie rod out last week for stripers last week. Found a few.

A lot of gas was burned, eyes were squinted, sea legs were tested.
Just not a lot of cooperation from the feesh.
Monday was a lovely bluebird day.
Sunday was a ride in the washing machine.

Shark on. Big shark on.
Jason had to break it off when the boat chased him down and got most of the line back on the reel.

Monday's calm start.

We got Albie skunked. Got some bonita, blues and a spanish mackerel to barely soothe our egos.
Salty clothes and shoes are washed. Rods and reels just took a shower with me.
Had a good time with Driver and Rhody.
I'm 0 for 4. Am I the banana in the boat?

Back to the troots.  :Dance

 :cheers

2022 Albie season is wrapped up.
Was kinda a shitty year. (At least the time I was there)

I arrived the last weekend in October and left the Sunday after Thanksgiving.

The only good fishing was the first day I went and Thanksgiving day and the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Most weeks I came back home and worked for 4 days then back to Harkers Island.

After the first weekend the fish disappeared. No one was finding Albies, not even the guides. I caught 3 or 4 fish in that time span.

Can't really blame Doug's bad luck as the fish were not showing well before he arrived. Rhody had done well before I arrived that weekend.

The Wednesday before Thanksgiving I didn't even fish, I had fished the previous four days and hadn't seen a fish the the last 3. I decided to save my fuel.

My old man arrived that Wednesday night and we went out Thanksgiving morning and had a great bite until noon on 17kt winds. We put about 8 in the boat. Next day it poured rain all morning so we slept in. Back at it on Saturday and it was an exact copy of Thursday except the seas were a lot calmer. We put about 9 in the boat and had many come unbuttoned.

It was a grind. Kind nice to be back to normal.
