Title: Smith River Aquatic Life Study
Post by: Al on November 21, 2010, 15:49:02 PM
Everyone knows about the sparse hatches on the Smith and the lack of insect life in general. Received this from a contact at Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) - They are looking into it.

No firm conclusions yet but appears to be centered around long term toxic sediment (most likely from now defunct textile mills and furniture factories). Other contributing factors point to nutrient run off and flow / temperature fluctuations.

Bottom line - someone is looking into it.
