The Dude

This is a May backpacking/fishing tradition.  3" of rain the first day was not a part of the tradition.  Temps in the mid 50s during the day and mid 30s at night made it feel more like fall.

After swinging by Snag's house to drop off a letter in the mail and to drop off the Cosby kids at the pool, I hit the trail.  The rest of the crew would join up later.

These fucking guys

Master of fire with arms akimbo

These douchebags were fishing the big holes with power bait and chartreuse plastic grubs.  One asked me, "So, are trout the only fish in this stream?"

Wading was tiring with the higher water

Got into a nice brown that had the 6-wt bent up good

Found this pinned up on a rock.....6 miles from the nearest parking lot.  It was a rental.

Water temps that dropped from mid 60s to low 50s in a 24-hr period put the hatches to a screeching halt.  A few flies came off, but not much.

Before

After

I was born by the river in a little tent, And just like the river I've been running ever since, It's been a long, long time coming, But I know change is gonna come.

Well fuck, I'll be in my hallowed T-County next week. Good to see that it cleared up so quickly. Nice thing about mountain creeks. Give em 24 hours and they will return to manageable levels. Well played mate. Best to ya next weekend!

I'm taking off work next year.

Seriously I am

I miss that river, you guys, and the inevitable pleasant misery of that yearly trip.

Has there ever not been some sort of douchebaggery going on in there?  It amazes me that people like that are willing to hike so far to fish.

Fishing outside of the regulations as far as lures/bait goes.

So this is a special reg/restricted area where you can keep and eat fish?  I like it!

That stream is "wild" trout regulations.

- Season is open year-round
- Only artificial lures having one single hook may be used
- You can only keep four (4) fish
- The four fish must be at least seven (7) inches long
- It is unlawful to possess natural bait on your person while fishing

Pretty much 99.9% of what we fish has this designation.

I'm guessing they probably either had treble hooks and/or natural bait.  But I could be wrong.
