Finished up work at 11:45, drove over to the S. Holston  -0-

Wicked wind, bugs on the water and a few, very few risers, so I went deep, Hooked Nijinsky on a #20 midge with 6.5x tippet, it didn't end well.
Tied on another midge and repeated, hooked Nijinsky again, had him on the line a bit longer but couldn't keep him from rubbing the tippet on the rocks and the fucker broke me off!!!!  n!n

Caught a few leaping rainbows and then waited for the evening action. Well a pulse came on down and fucked that up, so I decided to head on up the road to catch falling water. But when I got to the car I spied risers in the flats and went after them. Changed a bunch of flies and finally found a couple that they were interested in. Fished until 8:35. I'll be back in the morning to see what I can conjure up..

2016-36

Since Wednesday was a dark day (no work or show), I spent the night in Johnson City, despite having to drive through Piney Flats, the speed trap of a town that I swore five years ago never to pass through again. Fired up the laptop, remoted in at 7 worked till 8, drank two cups of hotel coffee while twisting up a quad of Puff Daddies. Maybe I should have stayed at a Holiday Inn, cause when I got to the river I could have used some help figuring out those picky bastards... I fished up at a place that I used to go with Troutphisher and Lurker "M", we had some grand times there, but now a new house is being built right up on the bank. You get the feeling that someone is staring at you when you turn your back to it.

I remember when "M" caught a dandy of a brown out of the skinny water up against the bank during a spinner fall a few years back.
I was still rigged up with a dry from last evening and I really didn't want to nymph, so I just watched for noses and sure enough a couple were hitting bugs in the film...

Had a beer at 10:30 and thought about moving to another spot, but then I'd catch another fish and hung out for a while, it was cool and windy and was spitting some rain from time to time.

Those goslings sure are cute when they are little, mom and dad taking the kids out for a walk

After a while, all I was catching was pune bows...

Hit the road and traveled on downstream

Fishing was slow but I found risers to target and the last hour was pretty much on.

I hated to leave 'cause I knew it was only going to get better, but I have an early call for Thursday's show and needed to be back.

Maybe the house will wash away at some point.  It always chaps my ass to see homes built so damned close to rivers.

That poor pink flamingo had dreamed of a respectable life in a trailer park somewhere, and it came to this. Say no to meth kids.
