Scott and I had not fished together since early winter. On this stream, no less. We like The Widowmaker, and she usually loves us. We decided it was the day for the trip to the top. After a late start (he's still trying for a turkey), we hiked in a couple of miles and jumped into the water. Three casts, fish on. A nice bow to shed the skunk. Scott followed with a brookie and it was on.

The flowers were past prime, but you know I found some to capture. After a ways, the trail leaves the stream and seeks higher ground. Into the gorge we went. I knew there was a patch of ramps ahead, and when got to it I snagged some for Sunday's breakfast.

The fishing continued to pick up even though the rainbow numbers and size went down. The size of the brookies didn't go down, though.
We jacked some really nice fish out of some really skinny water. But we starting to take a beating from the terrain and downfalls, too.

We finished up with a clamber up a few chutes, around some boulders and trees, and bagged some more fish before we climbed out and hiked back to the cars. We found a few signs of man in the gorge, but decided only a select few idiots do this every year. Some dude lost his lunch and rod bag.

Another excellent day on a favorite stream with Scott. We had a combined 50+ fish day.
And I survived another year's trip to the top.

Just checked it on Google Earth. Path was a gentle 1.55 mi. in.
2.20 fishing. 3.75 down and out on the trail. 1200 feet gained, then lost.
We don't have many of these steep, long fishable streams in these parts.

And we are not smart enough to drop a car at the top.  b';

Aka

Thats a sweet looking trickle Doug E Fresh. Good on ya.

Damn Doug, that's a tight stream with some impressive brookies worth the hunt.  Most streams which peter out to that size around here won't sustain brookies like those.

Big J

Dang Doug and Scott, looks like an impressive day.  bd;0

The Dude

That looks like a rod bag for a Murray's Mountain Trout rod.  Nice TR.
I was born by the river in a little tent, And just like the river I've been running ever since, It's been a long, long time coming, But I know change is gonna come.

JWJ

Thanks for reminding me that I need to go brookie fishing. ASAP.
