My spring and summer are booked up and booked up fast.  Had one free weekend in all of April and May and decided to take the kids out camping since leaving the wife home with all the kids was out of the question.  Booked the campsite and then the forecast turned sour.  Said screw it, we are going and will make due.

Off work Friday, threw camping stuff and kids into the Jeep and hit the road.

Got cold the first night.  Nearest town said 39 degrees.  Bet it was a few degrees colder than that where we were.  Had lots of sleeping bags and blankets and a space heater running all night.  Kids stayed warm.  I got a little chilly at one point due to just having a t shirt on and on my flimsy backpacking air mattress.  Threw a sweater on and was fine.

3 yo was up first.

Wasn't long and the other one was up.  Cold mornings mean granola bar in bed for the kids and tablets to leave me alone until I can get some coffee into my system.

And slowly make my way outside to make some breakfast.

Saturday I knew the rain was pushing in at some point so it was play on the playground, fish the ponds, and make sure I rainproofed the campsite.

Rain pushed in around 2:30 pm and stayed until 2 am.  So it was under the tarp the rest of the evening.  Brought paint, play doh, and coloring books to keep them entertained.

Saturday night got down into the upper 40's.  Rain stayed most of the night but we stayed dry.

Sunday broke down camp and headed over to a popular stream and trail.  I hate this stream.  So much.  Doug can vouch for my loathing.  But it's easy for the girls.  Stream fished like the pounded hard piece of crap it is.  3 fish and had to work hard for them.  Kids were just happy to be out finding newts, bugs, and flowers.  I enjoy taking these kids outdoors because of the things they notice and the excitement of finding new things.

Enjoy every minute of it while you can. They grow up fast. Glad y'all had a good trip.

Right on.

Those bluegills were beasts.
I was born by the river in a little tent, And just like the river I've been running ever since, It's been a long, long time coming, But I know change is gonna come.

Excellent! Reminds me of taking my kid camping in the GSMNP and places when he was 3 through 10 years old. Great memories. My "Davey" is 40 now, so times does indeed fly. You have beautiful kids, Dad!

Bravo Daddy!  Great job!  V:;
When fishing, a person ought to carry a flask of whisky in case of snakebite. Furthermore, he ought to also carry along a small snake.

troutrus

Memories to last a lifetime. ❤️

ex - I'm not going to live with you through one more fishing season!

Pastor explains icons to my son: you know like the fish symbol on the back of cars.
My son: My dad has two fish on his car and they're both trout!
