Doug and I were planning on floating this weekend, but looking at the weather pattern, decided to hit the trout while we still can.  Rivers would be muddied up anyways.  Had two streams we wanted to hit, one was a hit, other was a miss.

This stream amazed me.  Piss trickle, with shallow pools and riffle, but the fish were happy and plentiful.

Stream was thick with stinging nettle.

Big water, but lack of quality and quantity.  Not to mention the gnats.

Doug passed a car going up a mountain just to hit this guy 5 seconds later driving twice as slow.  Guy behind us we passed must of been laughing hard.

Very happy Brookies.

I give up on that flower after the false Solomon seal.

Looks like a great little creek. Don't you love it when you explore and it works out like you wanted?

My take.
Surprising first stream. Really colored up fish. Good minerals.
Good botanizing, too. Rare Monkshood. Super rare white version.  V:;
Healthy nettles.  :o   n!n

My question was poorly worded.  I meant to ask about those purple thumbs(?) emerging from the fallen tree in the foreground.

Stalk softly and carry a green stick.

It has been many years (and many beers), but that photo of the mountain pass looks like you are in Floyd County looking westward; with views of Butt Mountain, and Sugar Run Mtn/Flat Top Mtn in Giles County inthe far background.  Methinks you were somewhere in the neighborhood of Buffalo Knob if I had to guess.
I was born by the river in a little tent, And just like the river I've been running ever since, It's been a long, long time coming, But I know change is gonna come.

Good guess, but nope. A hint. This mountain pass has some history to it as well.
