This fly has pretty much replaced the EHC for me. With the hook gap clear, the percent of strikes/fish landed goes up quite a bit. Also presents a great profile with the parachute hackle on the water. Great fast or slow water pattern.

Hook: Dry Size 14-18

Body: Original pattern calls for gray dubbing, I use both Adams Gray or Olive

Thorax: Black Thread

Hackle: Grizzley or Dun, wound parachute style around wing and head of the fly

Thread: Black 6/0-8/0

Wing: Elk or Deer, I prefer deer due to higher floatation qualities.

I superglue the thorax from the underside of the fly. Keeps the wing and hackle locked into place. If you remove the fly carefully with hemostats, it is extremely durable. Give it a try. You won't regret fishing this fly....

Never thought about hackle between the hook gap causing me to miss, but I guess that makes sense.  I'm going to tie this up with a cinnamon colored body.  Thanks for sharing

I guess it wouldn't matter as much for bigger fish. Many times brookie fishing, i've been missing strikes regardless of varying hookset speeds. As soon as I tie this on, I connect with pretty much every single hit. It is one deadly fly.

Oh, and tranny, can't tie everything with chennille. Contrary to popular belief, I do fish dries and haven't fished the pink weenie in quite some time. No point with the fish rising like they are right now.... :-\

Yo Petey, I think this fly is going to be great in fast/rough water.  The para style is going to keep it on top a lot better.

This is my spin from your recipe.

Brown dubbing, bleached EH, brown hackle, and brown thread.

Brown dubbing, bleached EH, light ginger hackle, and tan thread

If I can just squeeze one of these in that seam underneath the rhody...

Oh man those look good. I like the color schemes and I am sure the fish will as well...

I was out fishing this pattern today and tore the brookies up. Try some with some deer hair as well, floats even higher than elk for the really choppy water. Post your results and catches here... cus that fly is a trout crusher if i've ever seen one... -0-
