Did this last year and will update for 2012.  We recruited a couple new volunteers last year and have spots for a few more again this year.

For those of us who volunteer at the NCWRC John E. Pechmann Fishing Education Center, located at the site of the old Lake Rim Hatchery in Fayetteville, the cooling temperatures mean trout are about to arrive and fly fishing clinics are right on the horizon. NCWRC provides the venue and volunteers provide the instruction. We have said many times before that without the generous donation of time and expertise by our volunteers these clinics would not be possible. This is still a true statement. We require a minimum of twelve volunteers at each clinic for things to run smoothly. Some of our volunteers are able to make every event while others can only participate occasionally - this is fine. We do ask that you commit to at least 50% of our regular clinics.

The trout are  scheduled to arrive on the week of December 12th, 2011

We have scheduled three beginner clinics, one advanced clinic and the Boy Scout Merit Badge events again this year. Dates have already been locked in. All dates are on a Saturday with a start time of 9:00am and end time of 3:30pm.  The schedule for 2012 looks like this:

January 7        1st Intro to Fly Fishing Clinic

January 21    2nd Intro to Fly Fishing Clinic

February 4       3rd Intro to Fly Fishing Clinic

(February 11-12 is the Raleigh Fly-Fishing Expo)

February 18    Advanced Fly Fishing Clinic

March 10        1st Boy Scout Fly Fishing Merit Badge Clinic

March 24        2nd Boy Scout Fly Fishing Merit Badge Clinic

We will also resume the Wounded Warrior / Military Appreciation fishing events in January. These take place from 1-5 pm on the 2nd Wednesday of each month.  We need a fly tier for the classroom and 3-4 volunteers to help at the ponds for these events. If we end up with more volunteers then we need, you are always welcome to go fishing.

We have a dedicated cadre of volunteers, most of whom have already committed to return for the next round of clinics. We are also constantly looking for a few good men and women with fly fishing skills who might be interested in joining our volunteer group. You don't need to be an expert. All we ask is for a commitment and an earnest effort. We always have our new volunteers monitor the first clinic so they get a feel for what we are trying to accomplish. This also give us an opportunity to review your skills so you can be placed where you will do the most good. If you are interested in joining our group please contact me at 910-868-6235 or email aakitt@earthlink.net  (Don't just show up - we fall under NCWRC volunteer criteria and guidelines - paperwork to fill out)
