well, I didn't really buy a '58 vette, I think it belongs to one of the Marketing people for Junior Johnson's legal mooshine business.

Anyway, after having to waste Friday waiting for a client meeting that never really happened and going to my daughter's soccer game Saturday morning (3, 1, 0), I headed up over the bump to meet up with Kyle and Lewis for a float down the 'lower' So Ho.  It was slow going for the first part floating on low water, the trout were rising and despite the clear skies and skittish fish I manage to take a few on the surface with a sparkle dun. Had a blast floating and we took out at o'dark thirty, and missed JT's VietCong Chicken soup.

Fernando, the firebug, built up the camp fire and we all swapped lies 'till late early in the morning.

My bag of fleece was left behind and the fire felt good on a chilly evening.

Up around eight, PHG had the coffee brewing and after a couple of cups I headed out. Clouds had moved in during the night and the morning was quite a bit warmer than the night.

Mostly rainbows came to hand, had a few good fish on the line. I was drifting over this ledge and when the indicator stopped I assumed that I had snagged bottom. After a few good tugs attempting to rip the fly firm the didymo, I realized that I was hooked into a big rainbow.  They were taking stripper midges, bwo's and black fly nymphs.

Some pics of the morning....

After a while of moving up and down the river I ended up where I started and caught a few more fish out of a productive run, including this fatty...

After catching that brown I headed back up to camp. Most had leaf but I said good-bye to the stragglers and then went fishing.
As I was moving out into a run, a PFFer called to inform me that the water was coming up. I thought there was just going to be  a pulse, but not wanting to get caught in the middle of the river I moved on up to the run that they had been fishing.

The birds were active above the river and I tied on a CDC sulfur pattern. The fishing was pornographic, browns on dry flies! At some point the hatch change, or the fish became more selective and they wouldn't touch the sulfur. I soon noticed the flotillas of
bwos sailing down the river. My #18 parachute joined the fleet, and despite the horrific glare I the water I managed to set the hook on a few fish. The weather was turning nasty, cold windy and spitting rain. I was freezing, actually shivering on the water, but I couldn't stop fishing. I knew a warm dry car wasn't far off. Finally I had enough, with no jacket to ward off the cold wind I left the rising fish in the run and headed back on home.
