After struggling on the river below the dam last Friday, I figured I'd move above the dam and see what was going on. Though we found fair numbers of smallies and LMB, they were hanging off the banks about 20-25 ft down. More than I want to deal with on the fly rods, we decided to go with the spinning gear. With water temp at 49 F, it'll probably be a few more weeks and another 10 degrees before they move into range of the flyrod for me.

Those were nice fish.  How big was the smallie?

Pastor explains icons to my son: you know like the fish symbol on the back of cars.
My son: My dad has two fish on his car and they're both trout!

5X - Didn't measure or weigh it, but the cooler I put it in is 17" wide and it's tail curled up just a tad. Probably about 3#.

Woolly - I'd be honored to sit in the boat with you someday, as long as you bring some of that homebrew. 0--0
I'd be glad to bring along some union made stuff for comparison. ::) Maybe late April. With reports of big browns in the Smith, I'll most likely be heading up there later today to run some minnow patterns through some of those deeper holes.
