If anyone read the section in May's issue of Fly Fisherman magazine there was a small article in the newscasts section about a piranha was caught in the Catawba River.  I didn't believe it at first but looked it up online and it seems credible... What is the environment impact of this sort of thing?  If piranhas actually became self-sustaining in trout waters would they attack/kill the natives?   What can be done to stop this sort of stupid "dumping" of non-native animals into our streams?  Any responses would be appreciated and is open to debate on the issue.

Piranhas can't live in cold water.  Any misguided idiot that releases their "pet" piranha into a local pond, stream or river in NC is killing it anyway.  In Florida, they are, rightly, worried about yet another invasive species, but here in NC, it's a non issue.  They may survive a mild winter, like we just had, but they won't survive a real winter.

There a vegetarian strain they catch in lake Julian in Asheville. A couple a year. It is cooling lake for a coal fired power plant. Pretty warm water. Good population of Tilapia.

I give you a + because your a Tarheel fan, have to stick together. Makes you wonder what happens if warm water fish like that start to adjust to colder waters over time. It has been known to happen. Worry about that land walking fish, don't know the name.

keep giving me pluses then cause it will counteract all the negs im gettin from these other dudes.  Yea im worried about the piranhas adapting to colder waters much like many common panfish have adapted to the warmer souther waters as well

Well some advice for all the Tarheel pizza  boys. Make sure the house you deliever is not accupied by a State or Duke Fan. The State fan might steal your pizza especially those basketball players. and at the Duke fans place you might get knocked over by some nasty stripper when she comes stumbling to the door.
