TP... Do you put any weight in this fly?

No,
Other than the copper rib, there is now weight on this fly.
When I pulled some real scuds out of the weeds on the rocks, and dropped them back into the current, they didn't sink to the bottom.

When I fish them, I fish them as droppers on the bead head fly to get them down in the water column. The scud dropper will them hang in the column naturally.

you can use mono line for the rib also on the grey colored pattern. The mono looks more natural than the copper wire against the grey dubbing and shell back.

This pattern works best when scuds are present. Check the weeds on the rocks for scuds and look at their sizes. Some scuds are big by small insect standards.
I have seen size 16 scuds in the weeds, but most were in the 18-20 size range.
