I fished a wild stream today with some gents, fellow employee from out of state, and his father in law.

This is a free stone stream in the mountains of western NC. The elevation of the stream is about 3100ft. The air temp was 28 when we started at 8:00am.
The water was gin clear with a temp of 40. The conditions were going to be tough, bright sun and very clear water.

We started the day, fishing some of the riffles and runs, I knew would hold fish. I wanted to give these guy's a good chance at catching a few.

We all started fishing with PTN's and GRHEN's both were size 16. we worked hard and we were rewarded with some nice bows and a few browns. most fish were in the 8 to 10" range and fought hard! it was fun to get them after working hard to hit the feeding seams.

At about 3:00pm a good hatch of BWO's were on size 16, right as we were fishing a slow water run. The current was perfect for drifting dry's. This run is about 100 yards long, so all three of us were able to fish it without crowding.

We managed several more bow's and browns during the rest of the afternoon.
The hatch lasted until 5:30pm, and was thick. We could see fish rising in the whole pool, and only had to cast the fly into the feeding lanes. It was a lot of fun and the fish were very aggressive in their takes.

We had lots of fun fishing, even if the air temp never got above 38. It was cold but well worth the trip. It was the first real dry fly action of the year!
And we all cuaght fish!

Here are a few pics of the stream and fish.
The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane.
