The Jedi and I drove to Bassett for a little tailwater action, the morning was cool and the parking lot was empty as we arrived at the mirror plant parking lot a little after 10. We hiked on down to the Trestle pool and I let Jedi jump in before I continued on down a little farther. The water was a little stained and plenty cold. The fishing was slow and I managed you attracted a fish to take my strike indicator. After a little while longer I caught a small brown my only fish of the day that managed to slip away before I could snap its picture. I caught up to the Jedi and watched him work the water. He had caught a bow and I saw him catch his second fish as pictured below. We then continued working our way up to behind the mirror plant. Jedi managed a third fish and the cold and frustrating day came to an end.

Jeez, you make it sound so miserable  ::)  You forgot the high points:  we got pulled over on the way up there, and nearly got our asses ventilated by some dumb ass yoder who was sighting in his rifle next to the river   o-o

Had worse days and definitely had better, but any day fishing is a good day.   0--0

The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane.

woolly and jeddi,

how long did you guys stay?  Yesterday there was a hatch of tiny tiny bwo's coming off arund 2 or 2:30.  fish were taking em big time.

fished up there ysterday with muddler and met peewee and Dean at the Citgo.  Peewee reported that they caught fish down below Bassett.  I fishe d the Spec. Regs, but hoofed down the tracks farther thanyou guys did.  found the fish in the shallow riffels and some fish found in the deep pool at the ledges.

Muddler and I moved down to below the Spec. Regs and  cuaght several more fish before dark hit!

Water was 46 degrees yesterday morning around 9:30 in the middle of the Spec. Regs.  Lots of midges hatching through out the day.  Saw a few small caddis flying around and then the tiny bwo hatch around 2:30.

Peewee told me the lake is turning over and that's why the water was the color it was.  Should clear up this week with the generation.

Fish are ther to be had....just have to knock em the nose with your offering.

I didn't want to steal you thunder by posting that the H.P. pulled you doing 7#+ in a 55 and only got a warning ticket, but got busted for not having a current inspection. No, I thought you would enjoy telling about that yourself.

Hearing the gunfire was one thing, getting out of the river and seeing the back of the target put a different perspective on things...

Ralph,

Sounds like the water conditions were identical, but I think the bugs followed you guys home yesterday  :D   Nothing, zip, zero, nada for bug activity.  Saw the occasional midge, but there was nothing in the way of a hatch.  There were fish in there for sure, but they were hunkered down pretty good.  I took two on size 20 bwo nymphs and one on a size 20 PTN.

Maybe next time you could leave a few for the rest of us?

;D ;D ;D

we left the water shortly after 4:30, not much of a hatch at all today. saw only sporadic bugs and rises.

stayed in the S.R. section as the Jetster is saving his money for the N.C. Dept of Revenue and didn't buy a trout stamp. No being 100% sure  about when you can fish stocked water w/o the stamp we didn't go above or below the S.R. section.

Ralph I think you had about 10 degrees on us yesterday also.

Wow sounds like Sat was the day to be on the water.Glad you found some fish this ole river always offers a few to keep you coming back.I believe the recent rains and temps have gotten the lake to begin its turn-over and lots of low oxygen and dead water is causing the dull milky look to the water. Fish are hugging the riffles looking for a breather. We stayed below and fished the moving runs and had a blast. Next time will be the best so give it a try. Be safe Peewee

You need the Trout License from October 1st through June15th. Not required June 16th through September 30th.

For non-residents the cost of an annual trout license is $35. If you are frequent visitor to Virgina trout streams it is money well spent. Opens up a lot of good options. Certainly a trip saver if your favorite blue line or special reg tailwater is not producing or is the color of creamed coffee.
