It's time to retire my 2005 TV and stop using a Microsoft Display Adapter to stream from my laptop.  The 55 inch diag (~48 wide) is max.  Around $1,500.  Any advice would be appreciated.  I'm itching to head to Best Buy tomorrow.

Samsung - 55" Class S85F Series OLED 4K UHD SamsungVision AI Smart Tizen TV (2025)  $1500

or

LG - 55" Class C5 Series OLED evo AI 4K UHD Smart webOS TV (2025) $1400

or - ?????

Stalk softly and carry a green stick.

Because I have common sense, ok
and unfortunately, a lot of people don't.

Either one of those is a good option. I like Samsung's UI better that LG's. And the Samsung will be a tad brighter if you are viewing in a bright room. Now that Samsung has an OLED I generally only sell Samsungs. So,, with that said. Go Samsung.

INSIGNIA 55-inch Class F50 Series LED 4K UHD Smart Fire TV with Alexa Voice Remote (NS-55F501NA26)

200 bucks!
Thanks - I'll take a look at Insignia.  We watch a lot of sports and I can't even follow the frickin' tennis or golf ball (yes, I have new glasses).  I thought we had to go OLED with all the new bells and whistles to get the best resolution, constrast, refresh rate, etc.

I can't really fish anymore, so my entertainment budget is benefiting.

Oled is the best for sports and all! I'd go for it!

I paid $3000 for an early Sony plasma!

TVs are ungodly cheap today compared to what they used to be and the quality pretty consistent across major brands.

Vizios are a steal.

Compare remotes - crappy remote layout sucks.

I had one of the last Plasma TVs in production. Terrible glare during day, but great picture in the dark - the blackests blacks.

Gotta LG C2 oled a few years ago and could not be happier. The new C5 looks even better. It was Wirecutter choice if that helps.

I found this site helpful and pretty agnostic when I was looking:

They really dig into details. Maybe too much for someone like me, but you should get a well rounded view. Good luck.

Thank you all for the input.

I went to both the Samsung and LG websites for info and, as Driver suggested, it seemed a toss-up. I chatted a with Samsung agent about some questions and he couldn't find the model I was considering.  Really?  I dumped him.

I went to the LG site and found most of what I was looking for - but chatted with an agent about apps and casting from a phone, FUBO, etc.  He knew his stuff.  I said I was going to buy the TV at BestBuy, and he said buy from our site for pick=up at BestBuy and I'll knock off another 20%.

So I went with LG to get a supposed 1,999 TV for 1,120.  I'm sure they still made a profit.

I had never seen a 4K UHD TV before.  Wow !!

I got an LG C4 OLED 65" last November.
No regrets.
