#25 -- 43, Gas $2.89 Scattered thunderstorms and sunshine mixed with a stray cloud, mid 80s

The river was clear enough to give it a shot and Rhody, Onslow and I met up at the Baywood ramp after Onslow did some early morning river recon.

I had been on a float from there twice before and thought I remembered where the takeout was, we had some discussion and tried to pullup a map, but lack of signal prevented that from happening, Ken thought it was down Riverside Drive, but I thought the takeout was on the right. After a bit more hemmmin' an' hawin', Rhody said go back east and then turn left after the second store. We picked up cell on the main road and found a Boat Ramp Sign to point us in the right direction. Now some of you who know the river have realized the mistake we were making and if we had studied the route more closely, we would have also. We dropped off the trailer and headed back to the launch where we found Rhody sitting in the bow drinking a beer, it was after all almost 11 o'clock.

It didn't take long before Rhody, casting a popper, caught the first fish of the day.

It was a mixture of smallies and sunfish mostly on top for Rhody, but when I took a turn, the keerlix was my fly of choice.

We ran into a short spell of rain just heavy enough to bring out the gear.

And the fishing turned on for a bit.

Fish were caught, stories told, and beers drunk, and we somehow managed to avoid the thunderstorms that were booming all around us all afternoon.

It was about this time that we realized that I had fucked up and when we passed the Riverside take out and 6 O'clock, we had 6.5 more miles to go.

Rhody did some heroic rowing, I did a couple of stints, and Onslow gave it a go and we managed to get to the Oldtown ramp before dark.

The weather finally caught up with us on the drive home.

You boys are something else. The only island in that whole float is your cue to row river left and hit the take out. Also, the only major feeder on that stretch is just above the takeout, same side of the river! Too much beer drinking and not enough fishing going on?
