Onslow

This year's fishing has largely been the pits. I headed out to a stream that rarely disappoints 40 minutes from the house. I did really well here last year but the larger cohort appears to have perished.

The water level was lower than expected.  It appears this portion of the Blue Ridge is lacking in rain moreso than others as the flow is what one would find in July-August.

There was some mayfly activity in certain pools, but it's not practical to dry fly this stream unless you're prepared to change up a lot, and since my readers didn't make it, I would not be changing or loosing a damn thing.

I had hoped to fish three days this week. The sole on one my wading boots started to come loose about a 3rd of the way into the trip. Thankfully it held although I had to tread carefully.  It really would have been  a huge problem if it comes completely loose since the terrain was rough.

Called it quits and cut the trip short around 2:15 after 4 hours of fishing. Plenty were caught and things became a snore fest after a couple hours since they were all small.

Some of the more open areas are a lot more braided since Helene.

I shall give this creek a rest for a couple years.
