On a recent trip to visit family in Arizona, I had the opportunity to accompany my grandsons to a community stocker hole east of Phoenix on the Lower Salt River.
My oldest grandson is an avid angler, but just took up flyfishing over the last year. He's had the opportunity to fish some of the wild waters of Montana and AZ, and has gained a love of the sport.  The younger guy doesn't care for fishing, but decided to give it a try just to get outdoors for the day.
I decided to go along and try to help Jake get the feel of using a fly rod, since he's never used one.
Being within a short drive of a major metro area, it was no surprise that the river was crowded in spots, but as is often the case, a short walk can find some solitude.
Fishing was slow, with a few stocker trout brought to hand, and none of the elusive sought after Sonoran Suckers came out to play.
It was for me a memorable trip, as I was with two of my favorite young men, and got to see Jake catch his first ever fish on the fly, as shown in the photo with his older brother Josh.
Jake left shortly thereafter and is currently in boot camp at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. ❤️
Was a nice looking river, and we even got to see some of the wild Mustangs that live in that area.

There's too much confusion
I can't get no relief".  - B Dylan
