Old town 119.  Best solo fishing canoe ever made.  Not the best deal, but it isn't bad either.

I can easily paddle the 119 4 mph with a double blade kayak paddle.  They are easier to grab than kayaks, and this boat is quite light.

There is also a guide 119 in Greenville, I just don't have the time to run down there. I had to google bolivia another long ride.

Greenville, SC?

If you are interested, I can go look at it.  Probably find a place to store it for you . . . my friend has a 7 acre pond!

You can't land an otter on 7x. Now I know - Dougfish

NC

Greenville, NC is 2 hours and Bolivia... The country of Bolivia might be closer.

This Royalex canoe is a good deal.  These were much more expensive than the OT Discovery line since the Royalex is lighter.

65 pounds for a tandem canoe or solo expedition canoe is a rarity. A new Esquif with these specs would run close to 2K.

Too long a ride. Both.
I need a proof of concept first.

Whats the concept?

I fly fished from a kayak early in my fly fishing days - it was pretty miserable. May have been my lack of line mgmnt skills at time, but that fly line found every snag.

Id imagine a canoe would be more bearable; but they are quite tippy.

Some canoes are tippy.  Stay away from anything with a width less than 30 inches.  The OT Next is a great example of a canoe not to purchase for fishing.

Kayaks are too heavy, too hard to grab and carry.  Jackson really screwed up by discontinuing the original 66 pound Coosa and only offering the 90 plus pound Coosa X.  The main attraction to smaller boats is the freedom to launch at challenging access points. If a trailer is required to launch a kayak, then one might as well spring for a jet powered Mokai.

It is too easy to lose rods while floating in a kayak

A light solo canoe is faster in the water and easier to spin on a dime in a rapid, making it paddle upstream to dislodge a fly or lure.

It takes time to get comfortable fishing from a canoe.  It takes even longer to feel comfortable standing in an OT 119.

I've been all over the Haw (12 miles), Deep (10 miles), Cape Fear (17 miles), Ararat (14 miles), Yadkin (63 miles), Fisher, Mitchell, Roaring (8 miles), Little River NC (8 miles), Brush Creek (5 miles), Big Reed Island Creek (18 miles), New (15 miles). Crooked Creek VA (7 miles) in the OT 119.

Probably the most challenging water I've been through some of the upper gorges on BRI, Double Shoals above Fries Junction on the New, lower Roaring.

This old beater has potential. An aluminum deck and a skid plate for the front might make this a good fit for someone.  I believe this is the retired Egret model which only weighs 52 pounds.

Do you shuttle yourself or paddle upstream and fish back?

A little of everything.  Conditions dictate everything.

Small streams, I wade-fish, paddle, pull up, then float out

Dryer climate low Summer flow streams are paddle up and down or point to point w/shuttle.

Larger fast flowing rivers are point to point/shuttle.

FW has busted his way upriver 4 miles on the Deep during low flows.

I've pulled/paddled up to 3 miles on user friendly rivers.  Strong rivers like the Yadkin I may only progress two miles up during low water.

Keep your eye out for the Esquif Mallard (55 pound square stern hunting, Adirondack (45 pound solo), Scout (52 pound solo or small tandem).  These are all made of T-Formex.  It is light, but not a durable as the heavier poly boats.

An Esquif Mallard went on the market and was local for $800 this past Spring.  It was like new.
