Ok, I'm gonna try a euro nymph rod again. Figure I can't go too wrong -- ordered a Echo Carbon XL Euro 10' 3 weight for $179. Also ordered 8 lb Maxima and 4x SA sighter material for an ultra thin rig. I already have an Orvis Battenkill II large arbor reel that's not being used, will spool the Maxima to the backing. I'll post a review of the Echo rod later on....
Wish this old dog luck on learning a new trick.

I recommend using just one fly for a while, add the dropper once your confidence and casting (lobbing) improves.
Because I have common sense, ok
and unfortunately, a lot of people don't.

Good advice. I have enough trouble dealing with one fly.   :embarassed:

Today --First couple of hours trying out the new Echo Carbon XL 10' 3 weight Euro rod rigged with ultra-thin setup. An inauspicious first outing because the wind was blowing so hard it was lifting my nymph out of the water at times, never mind what it was doing to the sighter. Casting was nigh impossible in the wind.
That said, during the times between gusts I managed 5 trout, 4 wild bows and a brown, all small. I DID feel the bites as the sighter jiggled. Could also feel the nymph bumping rocks in the bottom. I like the Echo rod -- very sensitive tip section -- much superior to the Orvis Clearwater Euro rod I bought and returned a couple years ago. The finish on the rod is fine, it seems to be a very decent rod for $180. Thumbs up review.
