Onslow

There used to be largemouth in there back around 2008.

I fished it 10 years ago and didn't catch a thing.

The two dams downstream cuts it from the Yadkin.

A move to remove the dams would probably be met with robust local opposition.

Onslow

The trail along Grassy Creek up to Klondike dam at Grassy Creek vineyard is pleasant.

There is also a 4.5 mile trail along the Yadkin downstream of Jonesville in the Yadkin county side. The trailhead is at the end of Plaza dr.

I got out this morning in the cool air. It felt wonderful.

I hiked about 4.5 miles of the Sauratown Trail that connects Pilot Mountain State Park with Hanging Rock State Park.

The total trail is 25 or so miles long, maybe longer. I'd love to find the time to knock the whole thing out in a day or two and camp overnight, if needed.

This stretch was very quiet. I never saw the first person.

I tried hiking a few months ago, however, it was closed due to deer season.

Lots of deer, squirrels, birds, and a rabbit.

This hike was followed by a visit to see dad in the rest home. Those places suck.

Until the next hike...

I completed the Cumberland Knob Trail and Saddle Mountain Trails yesterday evening.

Temps were great and outdoor time was needed after our basketball tournament in Winston.

Lots of warblers out right now. I couldn't get the Merlin app to identify a bird that was loud and clear right near the trail. Makes me very curious as to what it could've been.

A little over four miles of hiking total.

Felt perfect. I feel grateful to have outdoors at the tips of our fingers.

Just got back from 4 days at our cabin near N Mills River. No fish were chased as too much yard work, plumbing, and general cabin maintenance was required. A shame though as weather was beautiful, cool with scudding clouds most days. We are at 2,700 ft and mornings were actually cold requiring heat.

Did break for Man U game at 10:00 Saturday morning at Olde London Road Pub. Guinness before noon makes for a lazy afternoon but so needed this trip. Laurel on our road up to the cabin were spectacular. Caught the timing to be there right for a change. And thank y'all for the Merlin app tip. Had fun with it. Sat night found Sideways Farm and Brewery.  :cheers No tourists and beer was pretty good. Place was real nice.

Sorry. Nothing really worth reporting, but some times you just need a break like that... I thought I would recommend it.

Om Shanti Shanti Shanti

When fishing, a person ought to carry a flask of whisky in case of snakebite. Furthermore, he ought to also carry along a small snake.

After Mother's Day visitations, my young man and myself headed to a short trail. I've hiked the first portion but I hadn't gone to the dam mural yet at the small lake so we headed there. This was the Forest Bathing trail in State Road.

He got to put his new Merrells to work for the first time and we also saw the first snake on a trail for this year. It was a small brown snake who scurried away underneath some dry leaves almost as soon as I saw it in front of me.

The mural was neat.

I'm glad we got out in nature together. It was much appreciated.

Got down to the river to explore a couple days recently.

Eagles!

Yesterday, an adult eagle with two juveniles and today the two juveniles only.

Sandpipers, swallows, ducks, and the other usuals were around.

I wish I could've saw the ducks better. They were quite a ways downriver from us.

We saw some large fish swimming together. I'm guessing carp. These fish were over 30" easy.

Very cool outings.

I feel like areas like this are like your favorite movies, however, when you rewatch them, they're different each time.
