Fished with my oldest yesterday. She's 6 and has been really showing an interest in fly tying. So we took a box of flies she's been tying with little help from me to test them out.You cannot view this attachment. fly selection is critical

Hello all.  Been a long time since I've been fishing.  Family and going overseas put a halt to any fishing for the last year.  I've slowly been introducing my 7 year old daughter to the fun of fishing, and so far she really enjoys it.

We floated twice this summer, the first being on the James and the second on the Shenandoah.  I much prefer the Shenandoah.  Our first trip my daughter caught 9 fish and really improved throughout the day.  Unfortunately for us, we missed the boat ramp at Hardware River, and floated to the next ramp.  Thankfully my daughter agreed to go again, but only if we were sure to not miss the take out.

On our second float my daughter caught more fish than I've seen in a long time, somewhere around 30.  Highlight was the first fish, somewhere around 15".  She hooked another about that same size, and one that was larger around 20".  I'm thrilled to have been able to see my daughter catch so many fish, happy that it was many more than me.

No, definitely not.  The fishing was good and we just floated on past.  I had to pinky promise multiple times that it won't happen again....

Bass chased, but would not commit.  b';
Flowers were great. At least 5 different species of goldenrod were in their glory.
Asters were blowing up.
And Slender Lady Tresses Orchid was plentiful.

John talked me into a float. The New. McCoy Falls to Eggleston.
A cold front blew in the night before. We arrived to cold temps and 15 mph winds up the river.
Lovely.
We blew/rowed up the ledges below the falls.
Nothing.
Switched up often.
Nothing, Maybe a bump or three.

Down stream we went.
The wind would howl.
It would abate a bit.
The fish would still have lockjaw.

We got a lot of good rowing practice in on the New ledges.
And pushing through lots of wind.
The takeout was hit before too long in the day and we boogied home.
Beaten, defeated, pissed off.
Lets do it again.

 :cheers
