I dropped off the ridge around 10:30.  Somehow i still had reception, which i didnt want.  Hopefully i had drank enough water to curtail dehydration from the 3-4 whiskeys the night before.  Life has been pretty hectic as of late.  Wife is helping coach softball, we have moved, and just signed a contract on our marital home.  Work has been extra busy, which is good...but not during turkey season/peak trout.  I would have been cleaning out my storage buildings at the old house in preparation for closing, but buyers did inspection today, so i had a hall pass.

This particular ridge is huge, and drops off several hundred feet in steep fashion, but sure cuts off a lot of walk-over water.  Id been in the market for a new 3wt setup for a while, and finally snagged one off the bay and a good price.  a 7'6" Scott G (the old ones).  Oufitted with a sweet little Hardy Featherweight, it was good creek setup.  Until today, it had only snagged some bluegills on the pond in the front yard of the new place.

Starting out with a big caddis dry and sparkle pupa dropper, it didnt take long to hook up.

Fishing wasnt on fire, despite the air full of bugs.  They seemed to want emergers.

Mostly caught fish this size, which is fine

I saw 4 kinds of stoneflys, caddis, and both big and small mayflies.

and then i saw big boy...and probably the reason the fishing wasnt incredible (other than sun and full moon).  I seriously mistook this for a hummingbird until it landed.

I'm no pro on adults, but I'd say a Baetis

Hopefully Mudwall will chime in soon.

Makes me feel a shit ton better. It just sort of had the overall appearance of that family for sure. The genus stab was an unlit one.

troutrus

Considering the little bug's resting spot, I was guessing fruit fly.

Phil

I'd say the bug in question was a "little fishing fly." That there big bug was one of them "real big fishing flies."

damn fine brown trouts there   :bow
