This year has had its challenges, most of which overshadow Covid 19, and other distracting current events. Time is scant, and pruning shears have been employed to reduce relationships that are unproductive, and any other time wasting activities.  Time, like land is consumed, and there is less every day. Time, the weightless, and invisible, but so valuable.

Work has been relentless, and I've only taken 3 PTO days so far this year, and I wanted a solid day of fishing. I've been brooding over the loss of some beats that used to be my bread and butter, and the future looks even bleaker, however some local guides have access to said beats.  I can either be bitter, or shell out some wonga, save some time, and hassle.

Phone calls were made, and like an eccentric customer, I made a list of demands, and surprisingly everything I asked for was provided. The guide agreed to a point to point outing, vehicles were staged ahead of my arrival, and we covered 2.7 miles of water, most of which was out of reach even when the access points were open, and are currently not. But more to the point, we could fish a hole I've been staring at for the last 4 years on the computer, but has been out of reach.

I hopped on the ATV just after 8:30, and much noise was made as we made our 20 minute trip to the river.  The last leg of this journey was interesting. Rains had blown out the path, but we made it.

I was pretty much fishing with the usual stuff.  I enjoyed not tying knots.

We ended up at the "hole" around 11:30. While Cole was jacking around with my rig, I grabbed his.  It was rigged with a silly Adams parachute with a fancy hare's ear. Made a couple drifts, and the dry sunk.  I set the hook, and holy shit, and with 5x being the only thing holding this fish, I honestly didn't think it had a prayer of staying glued.  Having an extra set of hands saved the day. I fished the hole, and stuck a goodern I hoped for.

As the day wore on I was a wee bit disappointed with the lack of mid sized fish.  Action was brisk.  Did manage to sting another big bow, but it came unglued in two seconds.

Flows were juicy, and rocks were slick as grease.  My ass got wore the hell out.

By 2:30, shadows from the bluffs made it feel more like 4:30

Made it home by 5, and by 5:20, and was feasting on supper prepared by my MIL. Life is good.

Probably 17-18". I kinda screwed myself.  You see, this guide has never done a point to point trip covering this much territory, and has rarely been some parts of the river, if ever. The guide has done 400-500 trips, and has never caught a bow over 16". I just gave away my hotspot. Fuck me, lol! I think he was a little ticked.

And Happy Birthday, old man. :Dance

Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought ken would get a guide for this beat.

Good for you brother for checking the box and getting a nice fish out of that hole.

I really hope the next owner doesn't fuck it up for us. It's a beautiful piece of country.

Have the browns spawned out already there?  Do you think you were catching buck male browns?
I was born by the river in a little tent, And just like the river I've been running ever since, It's been a long, long time coming, But I know change is gonna come.

The largest brown was a spawned out female. There were plenty of redds. We did not stomp about in the pools.
Most of what was caught were bows.
