Whats better? A brilliant pianist or a bitching guitarist? Hard to say.
Yeah, great woodwinds, horns. But that piano.
Yeah the song is long. Consider it a sound track, bitches.

Here's where we are. This song was composed in 1924. Gershwin.
One of the greatest pieces of music ever. Seriously, ever.
What was happening in '24? I'll let you do your own research.
Twas a wee bit political. And about to be world changing.

J and I had talked about fishing. Ramp hunting was equally important.
He ended up being a responsible daddy, and we went solo. Wisely?
So I took to the woods this morning. Not with great haste. Bacon, hard boiled eggs, fruit, and coffee before I left the house. On a stupid popular stream by 8:30. It's a beautiful morning. Except I left the camera at home. Cell phone shots will suffice.  b';

This stream shuts down early in the winter and is slow to jump into form in the spring. Water temp was 52. Still slow to give up fish.

Found these goobers on the hike out and spent some social distance with them.
J used my trowel for ramps. I semi-entertained the girls.

Doug, have you attempted to transplant ramps at your house?  If so please share your experience.

I'm guessing it is simply to hot and dry in the flat country.

Dougfish

Too hot and dry to even attempt it. I can't grow bluebells. The only way I can grow hepatica, primula, michella, etc. is at the base of dry stack walls where they get some seap in the summer months.

Good stuff! I'm going to try to get out one day this week. Y'all are a bit ahead of us in bloomage and herbage. Ramps and bloodroot and Dutchmans breeches just barely starting to poke out of the ground here.

And ramps are very easy to transplant if you have a good spot. I have a big patch out back that I started mostly with the roots I cut off ramps while I was cleaning them.

Doug, I like your antique rig.  Good job!

Yaller is spot on I believe.  Right location and planting high on the hills so they'll spread are the keys.  I transplanted some a couple of years ago up-grade on a rich north east facing slope.  They are doing great and I'll not touch them for a few more years.  A patch the size of a quarter of a football field is the threshold for harvest.

I spent some time close to you, I think, a few years back, off Rt 89, off Ladonia Church Road, at an archery range.  We camped there and I had an opportunity to check out the surrounding forest.  I am sure ramps will grow there.  With your reclusive, independent, investigative nature, I bet you could find a clandestine spot to transplant some ramps.  Go get'em chief!!!!
