Last week I had the opportunity to attend a school in Colorado for work.  While there was no fishing involved (this time), it was an awesome experience and the mountains of Colorado are an impressive bunch.  We flew into Denver, and drove west on I-70, an awesome drive filled with tall mountains, canyons, and I'm sure, trout streams.

We did get to see multiple Mountain Goats, 1 bear, a lot of cows, and a herd of sheep.  No Elk spotted despite our best attempts.

Little did I know that we were staying near a trout river, and I should have brought a fly rod.  The river followed I-70, with easy access, and multiple guide boats spotted each day.

At 6500' in elevation, the air was noticeably thinner to this flat-lander from Richmond.

But we didn't stay at 6500' for long, and most of our day was spent between 7500'-12000'.

In addition to working, we ate well:

And finally, we took 1 excursion to find Doc Holliday's grave...

Next time, I'll be traveling with a fly rod, and I told my wife we should consider a Western vacation one year (she says I just got one though).

ex - I'm not going to live with you through one more fishing season!

me -There's a season?

Pastor explains icons to my son: you know like the fish symbol on the back of cars.

My son: My dad has two fish on his car and they're both trout!

That would be the Colorado River, which parallels I-70 west from Dotsera to the Utah state line.
BTW, I gained weight looking at this TR.  :P

There are trout along side of I-70 from Denver to Utah. I would never travel out west without a fly rod. (Work or Play)

Doug- that section is the Eagle River, upstream of the Colorado River.  We made it as far west as Glenwood Springs.  Cool little town.  I think I gained a pound or two as well...

I wanted to take a rod, but we had a lot of other gear.  I need a travel rod now.

One of the last times I was out there we stayed at Hot Sulphur Springs. Had intentions on fishing.
The river was blown out. The hot springs were nice, though. It was even blown out where Trail Ridge Rd. turns up the mountain in RMNP. But I fished it there anyhow.
Truth. Never go west without a mini kit. The 5 piece, 7'6" 4 wt fits in a carry on bag.
