A few of us had schemed to fish a river a few weeks ago. Then we were foiled at the last minute by,

wait for it, wait for it.....

high water!

Driver contacted me about hitting it on Friday.

I checked the gauges and the weather. Adjusted my schedule, and agreed.

Some streams have what I refer to as "heavy" water.

This is one of those. 30-40 extra cfs is very noticeable.

We started heavy, too. Heavy nymphs to get down to the feesh.

And the losing started.

We got into some fish. Not slaying them, but catching.

And losing.

I lost a dropper, then a double rig.

Then I hooked up with a beast brown. He gave me nice jump to show off his size.

Then he broke off the double rig.

I retied another. And about 5 casts later, I lost it in the bottom of the same hole.

I remembered most of my gear for this trip.

Except not having a buttload of my money flies. And my camera.

Shitty cell phone pics will have to do.

I caught back up to Jason and we mostly fished together the rest of the way.

I noticed he was in the losing game, too.

A dropper here. A tree there. It was contagious?

Lots of wood. Lots.

The wind picked up. The cold front started moving in.

And the fishing really slowed.

We boogied out after another hour of just one fish each.

" class="fancybox" data-fancybox="topic">" title="" alt="" class="bbc_img" loading="lazy">

I figure I caught about 15 fish.

And lost 10+ flies.

A new record I'm not to proud of.

Til next time....

Its your forum! Not a cut and paste. I did center the content.

Btw, btw, the

bullshit would not work.

Fixed.

Not a great fly loss per fish ratio, Doug, but looks like a good day anyway. Good on ya!  'c;

Damn nice looking fish and as to loosing nymphs -- Just part of the game. You were doing what was right at that moment. Getting down deep to sluggish fish. Sometimes especially in snow melt water ,I use 2 split shot such as a BB and a #4.

Just an FYI, the center code has to precede report code.

{center} {report], just like this.  Do not deviate.  Just use the correct brackets

As with Doug I lost a ton of flies as well. Back cast trees, snags, extra hard trout sets. I even broke a brand new fly line.

The water was a tad high. The deep rigs for me weren't producing enough, so I switched to a dry dropper and that seemed to wake things up a bit. I took several on the dry.

Then the sun came out and 25mph winds, and that was about it. I didn't take many pics for some reason, but here they are.

I had an inclination to stay the night in WNC and fish a crik that I haven't fish in 5 plus years on Sat. But with morning temps below freezing and calling for 20mph wind. I decided to head home and get some stuff done there. Like white bass fishing and bird watching..

But, I'm a deviant.
