Wife was supposed to go out of town with the girls for SIL birthday trip, but the birthday girl came down with a 103 degree fever Saturday.  Wife decided to make the most of the day today by hitting up a pumpkin patch and corn maze, but allotted a few hours in the morning I could sneak away.  Decided to hit the nasty little stream close by.  Cannot believe how healthy this stream is and it amazes me how fat these overlooked bows get.

Both fish came from this run.  Big boy put up a nice fight in the current.

Stream was pumpin.

This fish hasn't missed a meal.

Not sure if these bows can reproduce down this low with the erosion issues, but up higher I'm sure it is cleaner spawning areas.

Wow.....those snails must be very fattening.

Trout live in pretty places...except this place. High five!

Snails never seem to do much for the French. Few October caddis coming off but water was way too stained for them to key off on.

Maybe it isn't so much about the intake, but more about the lack of energy required to forage.  If you want to catch large trout, low gradient is the way to go.

I bet that stream is inhabited by tons of crawdads and a few species of stone flies.

Probably helps. Fish are happy so who can argue.

Nice fishes! Around here, you fish the beautiful, pristine streams with excellent water quality and high populations of insect life and catch mostly 5"-6" fish. You hit a nasty-looking creek that is half silted in running through cow pastures and trailer parks right beside the road, and the fish average 10"-12" with some big bruiser browns in the mix. Kind of funny.
