Inhospitable environs

I'm not easily stood off.  I"m in, and the world can kiss my ass.

Somewhere down there in the bottom of the gulch infested with greenbrier and poison ivy, is a creek.  There is no trail to get there.  The land is private, and the locals are rather sketchy.

She is a steep one.  This drop totals about 30'

Once down to the creek, some old ATV paths were utilized to make my way downstream.  It has been a spell since the tails have seen traffic.  Numerous old deadfalls are clear evidence.

I love old chimneys and artifacts.

Found many stone mini retaining walls on the my way down to the creek.

Started fishing about 200 yds from someone's backyard that lives on the lower end of the gorge.  Things get real down there.

After a bit, the gradient eases up a bit, and things become more manageable.

Three of the largest pools didn't yield fish.  Water flows were twice of what was ideal, and I suspect I wasn't getting deep enough.  Changed out to a tungsten caddis emerger late in the game, and hook ups were more frequent.

I did manage to find my out without to much anxiety.  visibility is about 30' and there is only a 5' wide slot at the top where once can exit the gorge.  If you miss it, yer screwed.

I applaud you for finding ways to access and fish these sketchy locations.  'c;

Phil, what kills me is the long days on the water.  I normally don't spend more than 2 hours on intense streams such as this.  If I wet wade than 4 hours now, I'll loose at least one toe nails.  In recent years, I've become rather fond of the low gradient streams on the New Plateau.  I know of places where I could take a dude in a walker and catch wild browns.

Skinny Puppy! Hell yeah.  Never thought I'd see that on here. Great thread title as well.

Good shit. I hit one like that a couple weeks ago. I was sore for two days.

Same.   I'll even let you push my wheelchair.
Yup, going fishing

That cliff at first is a bitch for real, especially crawling back up it if you go back out that way. I need to crawl back down into that dark and ragged place.

Ken, that is your safe place. Glad you tested the waters in there again.
