ex - I'm not going to live with you through one more fishing season!
me -There's a season?

Pastor explains icons to my son: you know like the fish symbol on the back of cars.
My son: My dad has two fish on his car and they're both trout!

Yeah, I read his book, Fly Fishing Through the Mid-Life Crisis, before I was even acquainted with his experience and credentials from the NY Times.  A fine writer - no doubt about it!  But I had a really hard time as a politically conservative "Redneck" stomaching his constant and sickeningly liberal jabs at all and sundry.  By contrast, John Gierach's style focuses me on the beauty, humor and wonder of the outdoors, without the political distractions - and he's undoubtedly a Democrat!

My weakness, no doubt, but there it is!
Grace and blessings,

I loved Midlife Crisis but couldn't finish The One That Got Away fast enough.

Midlife was endearing, touching and poignant.

The One That Got Away really felt like a rant of sour grapes: Why I Got Fired From My Job and Why It Wasn't My Fault.

His ongoing blubbering about his "trophy" wife really got on my nerves too.

Don't bother.
