The Dude

I love everything about this update........except for 2 things.
1) spotted lanternfly
2) Mudwall's belt + suspenders combo
I was born by the river in a little tent, And just like the river I've been running ever since, It's been a long, long time coming, But I know change is gonna come.

I needed the day with J and his gals.  Always wanted a daughter; didn't get one!  Always wanted a granddaughter; didn't get one!  I do have 2 wonderful grandsons.  The oldest of the grandboys was going to join us on Sunday, but dad took him youth day deer hunting.  He harvested a nice 5 point, his first.

J and the girls were a hoot and they made an old man feel truly alive.  I thank you.

The belt/suspender combo is a hayseed exclusive.  The wife sews suspender buttons on all my 501 Levis, my Mountain Khakis, and my Kuhls.  Aging = No Ass!

Wife and kids were out of town.  Checked the flows and thought maybe SNP had received a little more rain than western and southwest VA.  Wrong.  Hiked about 8 miles round trip for a bigger park stream I thought would hold some water.  Lowest I've ever fished it.  A couple bigger pools had pods of brookies sulking in a zombie like trance.  Was pretty much a hike in the woods with a fly rod except for one tiny brookie that took a dropper.  Had a few tiny trout swipe at the dry, but besides that it was a nice day out in the woods.  No park fees for skyline drive since gov shutdown is in place and think everyone was taking advantage of that.  SNP was packed.  Ran into a couple other fly fisherman who all echoed my sentiment of "I had no idea it was going to be this dry."

Called it quits around 1 and headed over to the new Buccee's for a chicken burrito and a brisket sandwich.

I could have saved you the trouble. My house has had a drought for almost three years.  Very spotty rains that dump in some areas close by and others get nothing.  We have had very few wide spread significant amounts of rain.  It sucks.

Thought I'd circle back to this post and give an update.  Daughter got first in her age group at VT Bugfest.  One happy kid.  Thanks again for helping her out Mudwall and giving her some pointers.

How cool is that!

Yes!  Very cool!  I am very proud of your gals.

Rare that I see VT and "first" place in the same conversation.  If memory serves, VT may have had a 1st in soil judging or cow judging or tree judging.  I do recall a VT 1st in some colligate bass fishing tournament.  And I think I saw a 1st place winner from VT's agriculture area with the winning synopsis on "How to Correctly Mount Your Farm Tractor".

Now, take those gals 'national' under the VT banner.  There must be a country-wide bug competition.

Go Hokies!
