When an unexpected day of fishing opened up Monday I planned on making the most of it with another early start. At 6am I could have never guessed how much of a blessing the onslought of tourists plus one little black bear was going to be to my success later in the day.

The original plan was to start fishing where I left off last year and spend all day on this beautiful brook trout stream.

After five hours it was time for a break, this is when my plans started changing. Sitting on a rock eating lunch I heard a twig snap behind me in the rhodo.

Thinking it was a squirrel I turned to look and was looking at a young black bear about ten feet away that didn't seem to know I was sitting there. Standing

up and yelling at him seemed to work as he went crashing through the undergrowth on his way up the steep bank but he didn't go far before slowing down

and looking to see what had just yelled at him. With food in my backpack and a bear looking for a snack I decided I'd just hike back out, ride over the

mountain and finish the day on some roadside tourist attraction creeks, it was a Monday there shouldn't be that many people. When I got back to civilization

it looked like the fourth of July with people every where they could possibly park. So I headed down a long ass dirt road far enough that those tourists would

start getting a little scared. Stopped at a bridge over a pretty unimpressive creek and tried my luck.

First fish to hand.

Caught a few standard issue brookies and then this tank ate the hell out of my dry fly.

Still haven't seen a bear yet, or a rattlesnake.

I miss my butta, but your butter works for now.

I've only encountered one bear. A big one. Always makes things interesting.

Nice brown on the dry!

Sweet fish all around!

Same here, yet to encounter a bear or timber rattler while actually fishing.  If it was a small one, you could of wrestled it if it tried getting your food.

It's a shame that was two different cricks. I'd say it was a tigger target. Nice chunky brookies tho.

Second creek had both species, might be a tigger in there somewhere. 8)

Hell yeah, looks like a fine day. Certainly no better way to spend a Monday.

Brookies and browns. Most excellent.  Fine looking brookie creek, too.  'c;

Don't worry about the bears. Henheheh.....

Woolly Bugger

Seen several bears way down Abrams Creek and close to the camp down there. Also saw one way up on Curtis Creek. Saw one big assed rattler in Stone Mt Sp crawling up the embankment along the dirt road below Garden Creek!

Pastor explains icons to my son: you know like the fish symbol on the back of cars.

My son: My dad has two fish on his car and they're both trout!
