#2 Aralia elata 'Varieagata', grafted onto spinosa. Cool plant, but spinosa wants to sucker up from the roots. Keeps me busy.

And this was supposed to be in the other thread.  :embarassed:  WB can move, or not.

This tree is not native to the Carolinas, but this specimen was found near Charleston SC.  It was planted by a well known person I will not name.  Give it a shot, and name this tree!

Winner!

I was quite amazed to say this tree and the South Carolina Lowcountry.

I had one in my back yard for 10+ years. It was getting too big (Duh!) and I offered it to a guy for a bonsai. 12"+ trunk. Did not survive the transplant.

So, who was the famous person that planted the redwood in SC?

I am at a loss, because Lezley Zen is the only famed individual I know from SC.   She's a porn star from Charleston of Cherokee descent.  I doubt she planted the tree.

Do I qualify as a famous person in VA who planted a Sequoia?  :P

Not yet, but you have the potential for fame.  Like me, your best chance for distinction will be infamy.  Our fame hinges on how bad we can be and It likely will depend on how our funerals go and if anyone attends.  If the crowd is huge, we are famous for a few days; if no one shows, they'll be talking about us for years.

Now I realize I am misunderstood, underappreciated, and even loathed by many, but at least you can answer the question!  I've not received an answer to a question in months!

Knowing Onslow, it's probably a person no one will recognize.
