Recluse, ha!

I'll float if not much paddling is in order. Shoulder surgery years ago has my right shoulder fucked good when paddling. I really miss the kayaking.

I was on a nice roll with smallies. Then went back to checking out some blue lines.

At Carolina Beach right now. Anybody that may be close by, come see me.

That's better than anything I've caught from that river this year.  Caught one 8 inch smallie yesterday and a sight of a naked man swimming in the river.  Things you see on the Roanoke.....

I try to stay away from the super busy areas---saw truly a monster smallie come up and sniff a popper/lots of carp there too--PM me if you want details of where

Yep. Enjoy the parents while you have them. I lost mine far too young.
As for floating, I have a two man hard bottom raft that can accept a motor. I don't have a motor though. It would probably do well up there. I am not much of a floater either (ask Al.) It's about to get a shit ton of rain over the next week.

The Uwharrie is not well suited for floating large boats I've gone down it in a 14' Jon twice, but we carried many cobble-rockgarden shoals.  The best way to tackle the U is to simply paddle or wade upstream/yak or canoe in tow, and fish a couple miles upstream, and drop back down.

The U will be running 2x-3x what this gage is running depending on which section one floats

2017 – 65

The Spork and I were supposed to go chase after some prehistoric fish in eastern NC, but when a seat in a boat became available, I bailed on that trip. What a difference a day can make. Friday float planned but with a catch, we would be putting in behind a guide who would have been of the river five days straight.. So we figured that it would difficult following after him and we might not get the top water action we were looking for. So Plan B was implemented, it required a longer drive and an earlier start. At the take out at 7:15, boat in the water thirty minutes later. First beer cracked before eight. What we didn't realize was that we would be riding a cold water pulse for the next eight hours. "I thought it took three days for the water to get here, not two." At first the river rose then it turned muddy and as it began to fall we were left with grass floating everywhere fowling the flies on almost every cast and it was hot. Still in the morning shade I broke a sweat casting! Once the sun rose above the trees it really got hot and any breeze felt hotter that the air around us. Around 10 we realized that things weren't looking good and we had better ration our beer. (we drank the last ones around noon) With a severe afternoon thunderstorm warning we planned to be off the water early and I was headed home in the rush hour traffic.
