Hello everyone! I've been a lurker for some time now as a guest, then committed to a user a few months ago. I sincerely owe my love of fishing to both my grandfather and my dad.  I lost my grandfather in '97 to heart failure, but his love of everything that swims runs through my veins. I go after about everything that swims. If it has gills and can be fished for, I'm there. Bass fishing really caught my attention in my teens and through college. My dad and I bought a boat together and still try and fish local lakes every chance we get. Yes, I am one of those guys who flies down the lake at 70mph, but hey, its fun for me.
My dad took me on my first fly fishing trip in 2007, while I was in high school. We floated the soho and watauga two days. That was one of the best trips of my life. I started realizing the connection between angler and fish when fishing sulphur dries on 7x..its delicate, but I was truly hooked. My dad and I have done floats on one or if not both rivers every year since '07. I also got into fishing the local stuff around boone while hanging out with friends at ASU. That quickly turned into just fishing and dumping my friends.
Since '07, fly fishing for me has been an outlet and connection with nature that I've greatly needed.  I currently fish the smith at least 1x a week and try to learn more about local waters in my area(Martinsville). Local blue lining is a real kick. Mapping and going out into the woods in search of wild fish is my new found love. I'm the first one to admit that I've had some good exploration trips, and some terrible ones. For me, its all about the experience and good times in the outdoors with great friends.

Nice LMB!

My only concern is it seems you have a lack of a designated lucky fishing hat.

BrookieHunter

Welcome and thanks for refreshing my memory of scooping up trout with the old ball cap, Forgot all about that trick.
