« on: January 19, 2017, 20:30:27 PM »
Smith River TU has lots of great programs and activities for calendar year 2017.  We hope you will mark them on your calendar and plan to participate

February 10-11, Anglers Choice Open House:  Set up booth similar to what we do at Smith River Fest. Fly tying demo, Casting demo and talk up SRTU. Eric Tichay and Al Kittredge will set things up and staff the booth on Friday. They need some help on Saturday.  The address is 6771 Al Philpott Hwy, Martinsville, VA 24112.  It is located east of Martinsville on Hwy 58.  This link should bring it up https://www.google.com/maps/place/Angler's+Choice/@36.6821935,-79.80917,16z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x742038e7535a7482!8m2!3d36.6828126!4d-79.8038265?hl=en-US

March 2,   Regular Meeting: Fly Tying theme. We will contact a regional “expert” who will demonstrate their tying skills at the head table. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own vises and either follow along or show off their own skills as they tie their favorite fly. The fly tying theme may morph into fly tying classes offered by Eric Tichay and  Dean Phoebus if there is enough interest.

April 28-30,   Group fishing/camping trip to Mt Rogers / Grayson Highland/ Grindstone campground area:  Club pays campsite fees. Meals prepared on site and prorated among attendees.   Contact Doug Jessie if you want more info or plan to go.

May 13,   Blue Ridge Heritage Veterans Trout Fishing Event: We assisted with this for the past two years. Very good event. Event takes place between Woolwine & Meadows of Dan just off the south side of the BRP.

May 19-21, Fish, Lie & Tie, Bassett Cabin:  Modest fee for campers so we can have dinner(s) catered, supply food, etc., excess funds to the treasury. Shane Pinkston will coordinate for cabin and will take lead on this event. Al Kittredge will assist.

June 1,  Regular meeting: "Fishing the South Holston"  Speaker TBA

June 9-11 Group Fishing Trip to South Holston:  Base out of a rental house on the South Holston. Expenses for rent and food prorated among participants.  We need a minimum of 4 with 6 or more being ideal.   Contact Dean Phoebus if you need more information or would like to go

August 12, Smith River Fest:  Fly tie and casting demo, talk up TU. Dean Phoebus lead, assisted by Eric Tichay, Al Kittredge and others.

September 7, Regular Meeting: Conservation of aquatic resources Speaker TBA

September 16, River Clean Up: This clean up will be just before we showcase the Smith River Fishery and surrounding area to anglers who will be coming to the region to participate in TU’s Annual Meeting being held in Roanoke September 27-30. Cook out and fishing after clean up.

September 27-30,  TU Annual Meeting in Roanoke.  This will be a major event with TU leaders and fishermen coming from all over the United States. Many will come early or stay late to fish local waters. Local chapters are asked to assist by hosting visitors on their favorite trout streams. We are also invited to attend the annual meeting.

October 14,   Fish With a Friend & Cookout:  Meet at Mirror Plant parking lot.

December 7,  Regular Meeting: "Health of The Smith River" report from VDGIF.
