Yeah, I'm mainly a trout weenie. But the golden bones have always caught my attention.
Brood V 17 yr. cicada hatch was going on up in the hills. We had hoped a certain lake might be the scene of mass cicada suicide.
And it was so. These pics of mine are over a 9 day day period, 2 1/2 days on the water. Other co-conspirators will add their stories and pics.
It's a truly unique opportunity to catch these normally bottom feeders chowing down on nature's cheeseburgers from the sky. So we took advantage of that opportunity. Enjoy.

Last Saturday with Fin and Mudwall in a high-jacked sloow boat. VaTrout in his yak.

Some commons.

Action shots.

The fifteen minute skipper. (Navigation challenged.)

New net came in handy.

We called it a day and I began a search for a new boat ride for the upcoming week.  :P
I knew my boy driver liked his carp, so it did not take much to entice him. Aaron was sufficiently piqued to make the long drive, too.
The three of us fished Friday and today. We left Aaron at lunchtime to continue the fight with Jacob of the sloow boat.
No camping pics. We were three tired dudes sitting a picnic table drinking and talking fishing. Nothing to see there.

The bait we were imitating. And my flies. Everyone's were a little different. All got gobbled.

Yeah, that grin stayed plastered on his face....

Cool clouds Aaron was geeking on.

Most fish were 9 - 15 lbs and pulled like freight trains. 6 - 10 wts were in use. I even used two old 8 wt fiberglass. I enjoyed seeing the 40 year old work horses bent double. The party is about over up there. We heard and saw less bugs and fish today. But a cold front come through last night, too. I think Fin, who has been 3 or 4 times already, is going back Tuesday for another go.
If the word is good, I'll go back again. I'm sure I can find a partner or two. Every 17 years.

Good stuff! I have never actually intentionally caught a carp on a fly rod, but have caught a couple over the years while fishing for other species (and had a few on that I couldn't handle.) They are one of the hardest-fighting fish in freshwater for sure, remind me of redfish when you hook one.

Damn that was seriously a teaser on the book of faces!  Hate I missed this shindig!  You guys killed it!!  'c; 'c; bd;0 bd;0 bd;0 'c;  Will be MIA for 3 weeks back from Europe July 11th, hope everyone has lots more reports like this for me to read when I get back!  :banana-fu: :banana-fu:

0:0 I've hooked a couple on Lake Norman, but never landed one.

Others were camera shy, but they may post up some pics

ex - I'm not going to live with you through one more fishing season!

me -There's a season?

Pastor explains icons to my son: you know like the fish symbol on the back of cars.

My son: My dad has two fish on his car and they're both trout!

No pics, but it was badass. 20 fish for the boat at least, 3 break offs, and probably 40 instances where they went to eat and missed the fly.  I also caught a frying pan sized bluegill.

Big fun, cool lake, they should make a straighter road into it though.
My real name is Chad Farthouse.

Congrats to the NC trio. Saturday's winner, winner, chicken dinner!  -+;  0:0
Sorry we missed you. driver and I boogied at 1pm.  b';
It's been a hoot. Fin and VaTrout, let's see some pics!

I'll add a few as well.  It's really hard to get a decent photo while sitting in a kayak with a 15lb carp laying in the floor!
I'll also say that SML carp have nothing on these guys!  Bigger fish, better fight all day long!

Wow the bugs were not on the water like that thus weekend.

I forgot my camera and my phone died. So i didn't get many pics. Doug summed out the details.

Hoping for another shot this weekend.
Hate is missed you Erik and Grayson.  Cell signal is the suck up there.
