Well, bmadd and I were less than successful on our conquest this past weekend.  It all started when I forgot my custom "Make BRFFF Great Again" hat at home and it went down hill from there.  We managed to convince the wives we wouldn't wind up dead or in jail and that we would periodically check in to reassure them of such.  I thought water levels would be good, but the heavy rain washed from the drainages in a matter of hours.  We were left with sunny skies, 90 degree temps, & low water.  The browns and other big fish did not want to come out and play.

We met up at noon on Friday, loaded our things into my car, & made the trek toward the mountains.  By 1:30 we had camp set up.

I decided we should fish in the gorge first, hoping that the steep walls and narrower section of stream had condensed the water and provided some adequate shade.  We hiked down the road and about a mile into the gorge.  We were off and running.  Getting smaller fish here and there.  Missing strikes, etc.

We had both landed a fish and decided to open a celebratory beer.  Courtesy of bmadd's nashville connections.

The gorge section has some fabulous falls to fish.  Parts of it are one after another.

We each caught several rainbows, but then we saw some fuckers carry spinning rods on the trail and fishing shut down shortly thereafter.  But it was nearing sunset, and we remembered that we probably needed to check in at home.  We drove up to the top of the mountain to get cell service and make assurances that nobody had been raped, pillaged, or killed.  Saw the sunset up here.  Very cool to see the mountains in all directions.

Headed back down the mountain to cook some burgers on the fire.  We made a great campfire.  It was one of the best campfires you've ever seen.  You don't see campfires like this anymore.  Talked UT football, fancy beer, and BRFFF days of old until 1am.  Stoneflies were all over our lanterns that night.  Big yellow ones.

Morning came early and we both remarked how we'd probably have slept until 10 if our bladders weren't about to explode.  Made a fancy breakfast of bagels & lox and some percolator coffee.

Decided to drive over the other mountain to our east and hit up a small brook trout restoration project.  The stream is open to fishing, but is still a work in progress.  Still lots of rainbows in the lower sections where the shock & remove efforts weren't 100% effective.

Fished the stream for a few hours until we found a decent drainage to crawl out at.
Came back to camp to refuel.

Decided to hit the upper section of the river we were camped on, in hopes of a brown, or fish of decent size.
Shortly after getting in the water I saw a big brown flash under my dry.  But after drinking 32oz of high life, my head wasn't exactly clear.  I never did a proper hook set.  The fish took me around the pool for a while.  I yelled to Bmadd that a good fish was on, hoping he had brought his net, and then it was all over.  b';
We fished on, hoping it was a sign of things to come.  I had a very foul mouth.

Not much luck.  We were hungry and needed alcohol.  Legs were sore.
Headed back to camp and drank and made some food.  Some was cooked better than others.
I think bmadd's baked potato was done after about 3.5 hours.

Night cap, and the last beer.  A good weekend that we'll do again.

I believe that was a much needed trip for you.  I want to see the hat.

Dee-Vo

That looked fun.

You'll have to get back after that brown bastard that took advantage of you while being drunken.

At least you had water in your tR.

Good shit.  'c;  'c; Spent last weekend fishing back in the mountains with some buddies myself, but I was too lazy to carry a camera and  take any pichers. No better place to be during a heat wave.

I have that exact same Coleman stove, but I have never cooked bagels and lox on mine. I don't even know what exactly lox is , for that matter. :D
