Every year I go on this trip with my cousins.  They usually buy a 1000 crickets and bream fish with bream busters.  This year we bought less crickets and I fished with the fly rod most of the time.  At the start of the trip, I fished on my Uncles pond and caught some of these.

On our way to the Alligator River, disaster struck and we broke a Universal Joint.  Spent a good part of a day sitting here.

The first night we checked out Lake Mattamuskeet.  The last decade the Feds and the state have had a battle royal.  The feds have mandated the gates open which allows salt water instrusion and decimated the bass fishery.  The entire lake is about 18 inches deep.  I bet it was an awesome flyfishing destination back in the day.  But all I saw caught were catfish and crabs.

Saw over 15 of these.  If my cousins did not have the air conditioning cranked so high my camera wouldnt of fogged up.

I can not stress the amount of wild life around this area.  Its full of insect eating pitcher plants, orchids and other stuff.

Cool ass trip man. I drive past there a couple of times every year and have always wondered if anyone fished it.

I laughed at the cousin Fred picture.  Anyone get a trailer hitch through their tailgate this trip?

No trailer's through the bumper this trip, but every trip we are courting disaster.  We always eat well.  Friday night we had rabbit and rabbit gravy and mashed potatoes.  For breakfast it was a mix of eggs, homemade sausage, biscuits, country ham and red eye gravy.  Saturday nite we had a country supper of butter beans, corn on the cob, new potatoes, turnip salad, cabbage, and squash and onions.

Damn TC, the low country meals you described gave me an appetite for some eastern bbq.

Enjoyed the report.  Needed mo pics, however.  Big fan of blackwater and brackish water here.
