The threat of flipping really only comes into play on serious whitewater.  I cut my rowing teeth on a 12.5' hyside. I want one bad but i think i may try to build a drift boat first.

I couldn't imagine flipping my cat.  I reckon you could flip it, if you tried hard.  I have found the cat pretty durable, maybe an ice pick would puncture it, but so far no rocks, sticks, or rusty rebar has done it.
