This creek.....a creek that I've thought about for several years. A creek that is highly off-limits. A creek that has gotten many charged with trespassing. A creek that, at last, I hiked into, and explored. This creek is one steep piece of water. Literally falling off the face of a mountain, this endeavor required careful work. Up top, this stream begins around 2800' and once it meets the flat land it lies at a meager 1500'.

Visions of brookies have danced through my mind over and over when pouring over maps. Today was the day to make it happen.

Somewhat of a bleak welcome.

Onslow

The creek looks much better down low than up high.  Glad you got into some stout brookies.

You and the bossman share a similar work/fish schedule, BTW.

Not poo pooing the nice fish, but is their color off because the stream is off color so often?
I have some streams that produce uniquely brilliant fish because of the mineral/nutrient content.
Is the reverse happening here?

Again. 'c;  And glad you did not receive any paper.

The first fish I caught got my attention. Pale in color, indeed. I've fished other waters that produce similarly colored fish. The water had a funny tint.

Onslow

Some damned fine pools on this creek, Jason.  There has got to be some 12" plus fish in there.

Dee-Vo

My feelings also. I wish I could've just seen the one that pounded my fly at the falls. That fish was a badass.

JD

Awesome TR! Copperhead Rd plays in my head in situations like that haha. I feel like everyone knows where this is. There was a creek I looked at on maps when I lived in NC, that I never fished that matches this description. It looks like like it was worth it.  'c;

'c;  'c; Well done. Damn nice specks, too! And nice smallmouths also.

BTW, next time you see one of those millipedes, pick it up and shake it in your hand, then sniff it. They smell like maraschino cherries. Disclaimer: millipede sniffing can be addictive and lead to dependence.  ;D

Millipede -- You may not believe it, but as I squatted with my camera and got close to the creature I could actually see some type of gaseous vapor around it in the air. I wondered if it was emitting a defensive odor as I never smelled it. Very cool.

Dee-Vo

Vultures -- The "wake" of vultures posing in the first picture prompted my further researching their behavior. A few months ago I seen one in the top of a tree with it's wings spread. The critters evidently do this to warm themselves and also to kill parasites on their bodies from eating dead things. They actually prefer more "fresh" dead things.

Yallerhammer

They line up like that on the fence posts on the ridgetop across from my house pretty often early in the morning. When the sky is red behind them, it looks like a Molly Hatchet album cover.

Woolly Bugger

Only the bird I've seen doing that on a regular basis are cormorants

Pastor explains icons to my son: you know like the fish symbol on the back of cars.

My son: My dad has two fish on his car and they're both trout!

Dee-Vo

Definitely were not cormorants.

Yallerhammer

Yep, cormorants do it too. With buzzards, it's usually early on cool mornings.
