Recently Released Felon Killed in Robbery Attempt!

A shooting during a jewelry store robbery in Winston-Salem Monday afternoon killed one person.

At approximately 3:25 p.m., police responded to the 1000 block of Hanes Mall Boulevard in reference to multiple calls regarding a shooting. Police also received a call reporting a robbery at Long Jewelers.

Upon the officer's arrival at the scene, a deceased male was located in the parking lot near Long Jewelers. The male appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound.

A preliminary investigation by the Winston-Salem Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division indicates that three suspects entered Long Jewelers and confronted patrons and employees with firearms during an attempted robbery. At some point, a person in control of the business confronted the suspects and discharged a firearm at one of the suspects.
