Had one near here attack a guy in a hammock on Hazel Creek awhile back. They usually have to close a bunch of backcountry campsites every year in the Smokies because of aggressive bears.

This is getting close to home.   I learned to swim at Douthat State Park  - very familiar with the area.  I might need that .357 after all.   

There are many bear in Bath County.  Everyone is seeing them.  Combine the bear, coyotes, copperheads, and rattlesnakes and you have the perfect storm.  I would not suggest visiting and attempting to fish.
