Damn. That's neat. Obstacle avoidance would be even better, of course. Can't believe it's only $499.

ex - I'm not going to live with you through one more fishing season!
me -There's a season?

Pastor explains icons to my son: you know like the fish symbol on the back of cars.
My son: My dad has two fish on his car and they're both trout!

Yeah obstacle avoidance would be much better, but still a cool product.  It said after June 15 it will be $999, but if people get in on it now I feel like it will cut into the go pro market.  Only 100 more and it can follow you and get video of you doing something as opposed to point of view.

I want to pull the trigger and pre order one just don't really know what I would use it for.

That's what I thought as well. Neat as hell. Yea, the $499 is an introductory price.....that's a hell of a deal if it works like they describe.

20 min. battery life. Not long enough for the >LOOK AT ME< crowd.

And yes, I'm including all of us.

It is pretty cool, though.
The advances in RC, drones, cameras is astounding. Your military tax dollars have yielded that.
They wiffed on the battery, IMHO.

I agree. Nice ass piece of equipment with a joke for a battery.

Since the defense budget has been cut, so has funding for research on this kind of technology.  Kind of interested on how it'll effect the UAV and other industries.  My dad works for a UAV technology company and they have felt the pinch.  They are trying to work more on civilian uses of UAVs and less on government contracts.  They were working on the DARPA's Transformer Program with AAI, but that has kind of petered out.  Now they are focusing on Agricultural uses of UAV's.  Programs that can scan fields and tell farmers which sections need more water, less water, pesticides, etc.

All drones battery life, for the most part, suck.  I feel like the most you are going to get for most on the market is 20 min.
