Had to head East for work this week as we had some backcountry rescue training. I look forward to these events every year because they usually take us into some new and interesting places and I get to see friends I haven't seen in months. Often times I can peel away to fish too.
I arrived in a driving rain about 11:30 at night Monday, and as my luck goes, had to set up my tent in a storm and spent the next couple days coping with wet gear. Not so bad during the day, but it got pretty cold at 5,000 feet at night.

One thing I won't leave home without is a way to make coffee. Weight be damned...

With all that rain, the river was high and turbid the first morning. Disappointing to see after the 4 hour drive.

Shivering and wet, I did still manage one little brown before we got started.

Spent the rest of the day taking in powerpoint and catching up with folks. Then we headed up high to do  a short section of the AT.

Some of y'all will undoubtedly recognize this place.

We camped that night in a barn with a bunch of through-hikers. Interesting folks with tales to tell.
Next morning we took  a spur off the AT back to civilization. I split off from the group and fished my way back through some new (to me) water. Never saw another angler all day.
I'm honestly not much of a trout guy, but if I had pools full of brookies like these near home, I guess I would be.

Tried for a while to get fish on dries, but it wasn't happening.

Went deep with a  bead-head hydropsyche thing. Did the trick.

My audience wasn't real impressed.

Three tries it took me to get this with the self-timer.

If Im going to catch tiny fish all day, I prefer them to be native. Apparently someone somewhere agrees with me.

Spring is a couple weeks behind us over here. These are done at home.

Ain't nothing vanilla about this TR.  Solid.  'c;

On the same page with you on the coffee.  Heck, I'll take in on day trips on the trout stream as well.

My job sucks. It doesn't take me anywhere cool like that. And, it just sucks.

To the point, nice looking trip! Awesome looking stream you fished there.

Jfey

I enjoyed that report.  Great looking brookie water.

Yup, going fishing

Biggest question I have: What was your Pal's Order?

Fuck yes. I've got to get out soon.

Transylwader

Don't need no stinkin' sign, I do that anyway on several creeks this side with cockroaches. Besides, nuthing wrong with using up your 4 fish limit and sponsor some dodgy raccoon a dinner.

I tasted Neapolitan in this report. Fuck Vanilla. It's for the birds 'c;

Woolly Bugger

cool beans report, nice pix too!

ex - I'm not going to live with you through one more fishing season!

me -There's a season?

Pastor explains icons to my son: you know like the fish symbol on the back of cars.

My son: My dad has two fish on his car and they're both trout!

Thanks for the nice words fellas.

My Pal's order was a Giant Pal burger, Fries, Chocolate Shake. I did a semester at ETSU. While there I got mono immediately and had to quit. Ended up at TN Tech. Hadn't been to Pals in years. No butt pee.

Hopefully more reports to come, soon.
