I picked me up a new crick rod. Echo's new fiberglass, 6'9" 3wt. Noodley action and surprisingly light for glass.
Carmel blank, olive wraps, downlock seat. To convey the vintage shit show, I'm thinking about a small, lightish vintage click and pawl reel.
But I'm not breaking the bank on it. Not Hardy money, but Heddon, Eagle Claw, Diawa, etc.
My fall back is a Battenkill if nothing pans out. (old white man Orvis stuff, you know)
Pm me if you have a contender. I would most appreciate it.

Good looking rod. I say go with a click and pawl for sure. Mine is not for sale. It's a twenty five year old Shakespeare loaded with 7wt sink-tip line that I use to throw streamers on my 6wt TFO. I know your supposed to spend $500 or more on a nautilus but I haven't gotten around to that yet. Occasionally I have to tighten a screw on the frame that will rub against the spool if left unattended but otherwise the simple mechanics of it are indestructible.

Get on eBay and buy you a $10 martin.

I've got an old Shakespeare Auto that's going back on my old 6wt Wonderrod one day. Heavy!
Once upon a time, I had a handmade brass reel. My grandfather made it when he was the maintenance man at the torpedo factory in Alexandria, VA.
Long gone. No idea where. b';

And I hate ebay. I would rather deal with one of the scoundrels on here.

I still use eBay, but its not what it used to be.  Very commercialized nowadays!

I think I'm going to do exactly that.  A Model 60 for about 20.

Doug - curious about your thoughts on the rod after you get to fish it.

You bet. In 10 days the schedule will allow a baptism. Should have a sweet reel on it by then.

BTW, snagged a Martin 61 for another project.

May be too late to make a suggestion, but I would recommend a Ross Colorado #0 as a perfect fit for a 3 wt.  My wife and I both use these on our St. Croix Legend Ultra 3 wt.s and they balance well, look good (#0 was ported on bothe sides, unlike the larger Colorados), and are bomb proof!  On top of that, I foolishly tried to change something on my wife's reel on a stream, resulting in my dropping the little piece and Ross mailed me a replacement within 2 days at no charge.  That's solid  customer service, particularly on an older reel and got me back out of the dog house.

I found one for you to look at (not mine):

Edit:  Looked on Ebay and there were others as well.  You get a better picture of the reel at:

See what you think.

My $.02.

When fishing, a person ought to carry a flask of whisky in case of snakebite. Furthermore, he ought to also carry along a small snake.

Thanks TB II. Good looking reel.

I think I'm set though. I'll put up a pic and particulars later.

You ever check out reels from The Anglers Roost?

Nah. I'm buying vintage reels. 40's-70's. I have bought 8 in the last 72 hrs. And one vintage glass rod, to go with the three I already owned. All the reels average under $20 delivered. I have a new illness. Got three more lined up in my sights. I'll get them all cleaned up and decide what to mount on what and then display/sell the rest.

I received a really nice reel from a friend at a really good price. It's on the new rod.
But before I got that, I was researching the vintage market.
A sampling of what I picked up.
